Dr. Viannae Carmona Nelkin, PsyD

Licensed Pediatric Neuropsychologist (CA PSY 35541)

Dr. Nelkin is a licensed pediatric neuropsychologist, mom, and founder of The Children’s Neuropsychology Center. Specializing in infants through young adults, Dr. Nelkin provides personalized, evidence-based care tailored to each child’s unique needs. With a focus on bridging clinical insights with practical solutions, Dr. Nelkin believes in a strengths-based approach, where every child’s unique abilities are valued.

Training and Education

Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst

Before her journey to becoming a pediatric neuropsychologist, Dr. Nelkin worked as a developmental play interventionist (DIR® Floortime™) and behavioral interventionist.

Dr. Nelkin went on to obtain formal training in applied behavior analysis (ABA) and became board certified (BCaBA) in 2014.

Masters

Dr. Nelkin obtained a master’s degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy from Pepperdine University.

During her time at Pepperdine, Dr. Nelkin obtained formal training in Autism Diagnostics (ADOS-2) and perinatal mental heath.

Doctorate

Dr. Nelkin obtained a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from California Lutheran University (CLU).

During her time at CLU, Dr. Nelkin sought specialized training in clinical neuropsychology and worked to expand the training opportunities available for doctoral students interested in the specialty.

Dr. Nelkin also conducted research that examined barriers to early identification and treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Cedars Sinai

Dr. Nelkin completed pre-doctoral training in clinical neuropsychology at Cedars Sinai. During her time at Cedars Sinai, Dr. Nelkin obtained specialized training in:

  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Stroke
  • Neurodegenerative disorders

Children's Hospital

Los Angeles

Dr. Nelkin completed pre-doctoral training in pediatric neuropsychology at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA).

During her time at CHLA, Dr. Nelkin obtained specialized training in:

  • Pediatric brain tumors
  • Leukemia and other cancers
  • Neurofibromatosis Type 1
  • Tuberous Sclerosis

Johns Hopkins

All Children's Hospital

Dr. Nelkin completed an APA accredited internship program in pediatric neuropsychology at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital.

During her time at JHACH, Dr. Nelkin obtained specialized training in:

  • NICU follow-up evaluations
  • Autism diagnostics
  • Pediatric brain tumors
  • Leukemia and other cancers
  • Pre-surgical epilepsy evaluations
  • Genetic conditions

The CNPC

Dr. Nelkin founded The CNPC in 2024.

Dr. Nelkin completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).

Dr. Dianne Kong, PsyD

Pediatric Neuropsychology Post-Doctoral Fellow       

Dr. Kong is currently a second year pediatric neuropsychologist post-doctoral fellow with specialized training in providing assessment and treatment for children, adolescents, and young adults. Her clinical experiences include working directly with children and their families, experiencing neurological, developmental, and/or learning disorders. She uses a comprehensive approach that tailors each evaluation to the specific needs of a child, integrating elements across home, school, and community settings.
